
George W. Bogantz, 88, of Mansfield, died Saturday evening, July 9, 2005 at Crestwood Care Center, Shelby, following a brief illness. Born June 23, 1917 in Mansfield, he was the son of George W.M. and Eva Pascheilich Bogantz. He served in the U.S. Army Air Force during WWII, serving two years overseas. Mr. Bogantz retired after 41 years as a maintenance foreman at Mansfield Tire and Rubber Company. He was a charter member of the Westwood Alliance Church, serving as a trustee for many years. A member of the Fun Center Chordsmen Barbershop Chorus for 16 years, he enjoyed gardening and fishing.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Margaret Gages Bogantz of Mansfield; two sons and daughter-in-law, Greg Bogantz of Ashville, North Carolina, and Gilbert and Melanie Bogantz of Mansfield; one daughter and son-in-law, Jane and Rev. Doyle Peyton of Mansfield; five grandchildren, Glenn Peyton, Emily Peyton, Brinne Baumgard, Darcy Peyton, and Wil Bogantz; three brothers, Robert, William, and Herman Bogantz, all of Mansfield; and three sisters, Eva Groff, Florence Kaufman, Katheryn Leitenberger, all of Mansfield. He was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter, Jesse Lee Bogantz; one brother, Walter Bogantz; and two sisters, Anna Stone, and Pauline Beymer.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 12, 2005 at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors. Friends may also call one hour prior to the 2 p.m. service Wednesday, from 1 to 2 p.m., at the funeral home with Rev. Doyle Peyton officiating. Military graveside services will follow in Mansfield Memorial Park, with Mr. Bogantz's grandson, Glenn Peyton playing taps. Memorial contributions may be made to the Westwood Alliance Church Building Fund.
