George "Sonny" L. Moats, Jr.

George L. "Sonny" Moats Jr., 51, of Mansfield, passed away late Tuesday evening, June 6, 2017, at his home. He was born January 6, 1966, in Mansfield, Ohio, to George L. Moats, Sr. and Janet Eileen (Tuttle) Moats.

He was a 1984 graduate of Lexington Senior High School where he played on the football team and attended The Ohio State University. He was currently working as a shift manager at Tim Horton's. A very positive man who lived life to the fullest, he enjoyed the many people he met while at work. Sonny was a softball coach with a recreational league and umpired also. Golfing and being a member of QFM Bowling League were his favorite pastimes. Sports, gambling and going to concerts were activities that were favorite interests to him.

Sonny is survived by his father, George L. Moats, Sr. of Mansfield; three brothers, Gregory (Dorleen) Moats of Mansfield, Andrew (Emelie) Moats of Columbus, and Matthew Moats of Mansfield; six nieces, Samantha, Rachael, Ashley, Tiffany, Brittney and Kayla; uncle, Gordon (Dollie) Tuttle of Georgia; and good friends, Melanie and Ed. He was preceded in death by his mother, Janet I. Moats.

The family will receive friends from 3:00-5:00 p.m. Monday, June 12, 2017, at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Rd.
