
George Stankovich, age 64, died Thursday evening April 15, 2004, at MedCentral Mansfield Hospital after an extended illness. He was born November 8, 1939 in Cleveland, Ohio to Sam and Barbara Stankovich. He was a former Mansfield Police officer and also worked as a security guard for A.K. Steel. He was a two term President of the Guard Worker's Union at A.K. Steel until his retirement. George was a very patriotic veteran serving with the U.S. Army and was a member of the Hannah Rd. Church of God. George loved to read his Bible and was very close to his family. He was well known and liked by many people, with a good sense of humor and enjoyed making people laugh.
He is survived by his wife, Helen Lyon Stankovich of 44 years; three sons and daughters-in-law, Samuel G. and Robin Stankovich, Mark A. Stankovich, and John A. and Christy Stankovich, all of Mansfield; one daughter, Mary Kennedy of Lexington; eight grandchildren, Joe, John, Ashley, Amanda and Kyle Stankovich, Cody Magoo Kennedy, Alex and Seth Binion; one great-grandson, Clayton Sir James Stankovich. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
Friends may call at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, Sunday, April 18 from 4-7 p.m. Funeral services conducted by Rev. Floyd Skaggs will be held at the funeral home, Monday at 1:00 p.m. Military graveside services will follow in Windsor Park Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Hannah Rd. Church of God.
