

Gerald Thomas Davidson died Wednesday, June 1, 2005. He was 90 years young. Born in 1914 in Mansfield to Emma and Ervin Davidson, he had two brothers and three sisters. Mr. Davidson served his country honorably during World War II fighting at both Normandy and The Battle of the Bulge in Germany. He handled the duties of the artillery in the army and received a Letter of Commendation for his outstanding service during the war. Upon returning to Mansfield after the war, Gerald 'Davy' worked in sales until he started a used car lot, Springmill Auto Market in 1958. In 1962, Discount Liquidation Lot was created to outlet cars from the new dealers. Gerald successfully operated this until his retirement in 1976. Mr. Davidson was a philanthropist, humanitarian, and actively involved in the community and charitable works. He generously contributed to many organizations both in the community and internationally. He had a tradition of going to Family Services at Christmas time and having friends hand out $100 bills to those in need. He was involved in giving scholarships to college students, supporting the arts, a contributor to both local and international organizations and third world countries.
Mr. Davidson was preceded in death by his son, Garry Davidson and is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Janie and Lee Greene, three grandchildren, Taylor, 20, Ben, 15, and Catie, 9, and his beloved companion for over 30 years, Erma Davis.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday June 4, 2005 at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to a favorite charity, church, or foundation of choice.
