
Goldie Alice Simpson Schluter, 95, of Mansfield, died at MedCentral Tuesday, October 7, 2008, after a long illness. Goldie was born to Charles W. and LuLu Mae Simpson in Brinkhaven, Ohio on a farm. She attended Brinkhaven, Loudonville, and Mansfield schools. She was an active member of Main Street United Methodist Church, Westbrook Country Club, Sandalfoot Country Club in Boca Raton, Florida, and The Women's Club. She was a real estate agent for several years, an avid bridge player, and loved to play golf. She was especially proud of her hole-in-one trophy from the country club.
She married Frank C. "Whitey" Schluter when she was only 16, and had three children, Charles, Theodore, and Phyllis. Preceding her in death were her husband, Frank C. Schluter, and her daughter-in-law, Shirley Schluter. Also preceding her in death was her son, Charles Eugene Schluter. Her brothers, Doyle and Murrel Simpson, and sister, Avis Simpson Stumbaugh also preceded her in death.
Surviving Goldie are her son Charles' family, Jeanie Schluter and their children, Terry Wolf, Tracy Royse, Charles Schluter II, and their spouses, their six children, and their three grandchildren; Goldie's son, Theodore "Ted" Franklin Schluter, his three children, Kim Hickox, Dirk Schluter, Brett Schluter, and their spouses, and his eight grandchildren. Goldie's daughter, Phyllis Schluter Cunningham and her husband, Bill reside in California and have two children, Bill Cunningham, Jr., and Kelly, and their five grandchildren. Evelyn Butler, Jean Thomas, and Cliff Stumbaugh are Goldie's nieces and nephew. Goldie's family wishes to thank Bonnie Ardner, a dear and treasured friend and caregiver for well over nine years. Her continued care brought comfort to Goldie and her family.
We will welcome family and friends at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Rd., Ontario, on Saturday, October 11, 2008 from 11 to 2 p.m. A service to celebrate her life will follow at 2 p.m. at the funeral home conducted by Dr. Blake Wagner and Pastor Doug Lewis. Her final resting place will be at Mansfield Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to Main Street United Methodist Church.
