
Harold 'Curley' Kissel, 65, of Shiloh, Ohio died at home Monday evening, January 8, 2001 after fighting a 20-month battle with cancer. Mr. Kissel was born June 23, 1935 in Ganges, Ohio living in the Shenandoah area since age 5. He was President and co-owner of a family corporation, Kissel Tractor Sales, Inc. Mr. Kissel graduated from Union High School in 1953. He was an avid Harley-Davidson enthusiast his whole life, owner and builder of stock car #98 from the late 50's and 60's, and enjoyed farming, cooking, and his plants and flowers. Mr. Kissel was a member of the Richland County Coon Hunters Club, TJ's Hotel Club, and an honorary member of Shiloh Post #503 of the American Legion. He helped with the Shiloh Fire Department Annual Ox Roast. Mr. Kissel was loyal to family and friends, a 'cool' grandpa, an outstanding father, and a best friend and loving husband. He died at home surrounded by his loving family.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Gladysann Eberts Kissel of Shiloh, whom he married September 12, 1953; one son, Michael E. Kissel of Mansfield; two daughters and sons-in-law, Kristi E. & James Cutright of Ashland and Stacia J. & Marty Slone of Mansfield; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary & David Motter of Shenandoah and Kay & Lloyd Shorter of Lancaster, Pennsylvania; his mother, Clara Jane Snyder and her husband, John of Shenandoah; five grandchildren, Kelly Boebel and her husband, Heath of Willoughby, Joe Slone and Amy Slone of Mansfield, and Brad Cutright and Brittany Cutright of Ashland; three close friends, Chuck Kissel, Wilbur Greenawalt, and Charlie Wolford; a host of friends; aunts and uncles; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Maurice D. Kissel; a sister, Judy Kissel; and a granddaughter, Brianne Cutright.
Friends may call at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors Thursday from 3-5 and 6-9 p.m. Funeral services will be held Friday at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home conducted by David Dunn, an elder in the Galion congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses. Burial will be in Shenandoah Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to MedCentral Hospice.
