Hedwig (Hedy) Ormesher of Mansfield, Ohio, passed away March 31, 2025, at home, surrounded by her family. Hedy was born October 6, 1929, in Cervenka, Yugoslavia. She then moved to Kaiserslautern, Germany, where she met her husband, Leo Ormesher.
Hedy and Leo married in 1952 and relocated to Mansfield, Ohio, in 1954 where they raised their six children. She worked at Abbott Labs in Ashland, Ohio for many years before retiring.
She was known and will be remembered for her quick wit, candor and humorous spirit—she had a way with words that left everyone smiling. Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were a great source of pride for Hedy. She loved spending time with them and was always volunteering to hold a baby or make a young grandchild smile.
She frequently shared her stories of growing up in Yugoslavia. She was deeply rooted in her Danube Swabian heritage as evidenced in her expert German dishes, perfect pastries and desserts, all cooked from scratch without recipes.
Hedy enjoyed sewing. She was an excellent and skilled seamstress. In her younger years, she made many outfits for her children, prom dresses, and even baby doll clothing for her grandchildren.
She was a gifted gardener. For many years, with the help of her husband, she maintained a gorgeous yard full of fruit trees, grapevines, and vegetable and herb gardens. All of which she put to use in her wonderful meals. Every out-of-town guest was greeted with a scrumptious meal on their arrival.
She shared her generous spirit by supporting her community by sewing blankets for World Relief and baking cakes, strudel, and bread for her church. Hedy was a woman of great faith, she was a member of Apostolic Christian Church for over 50 years, and attended services in both Mansfield, Ohio, and Zapata, Texas. This faith was passed down in her family and she frequently took her grandchildren and great-grandchildren to church and bible camp.
She has left a legacy of faith, devotion, humor, and love that will live on in her friends and family. She is survived by her loving husband of 73 years, Leo Ormesher; her dear cousin, Herta Altner; her children Leo (Bo) Ormesher, Edna Stinehour, Margrit Bautz, Patricia Merrill, and Richard Ormesher, as well as 17 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren. Hedy was preceded in death by her parents, Ludwig and Margaret (Major) Loos, brothers Ludwig and Edward Loos, and her daughter, Christina Elizabeth Naething.
Services will be held at Wappner Funeral Directors located at 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Rd in Ontario, Ohio on Friday April 4, 2025, at 11 am.
