
Mrs. Painter was born May 5, 1915 in Mansfield to the late Peter Gordon and Janet Moir Ross. She was a Mansfield area resident, living in Nashua, New Hampshire recently. She was the widow of Richard P. Painter, an executive in the tire and rubber industry. They married in 1941 in Mansfield. She was a volunteer leader and administrator with the Girl Scouts of America for more than 44 years in New Hampshire and Ohio and was a lifetime member of the Girl Scouts. On April 1, 1990, she was awarded the St. Anne Medal by the Catholic Committee of Scouting in Manchester for recognition of her service and spiritual development of Catholic youth.
She is survived by a brother, Peter G. Ross, Jr. of Mansfield; seven nephews, Clair Touby of Saranac Lake, New York, Albert Touby of Mansfield, David Touby of Arizona, Gordon Jones of Genoa, Illinois, Harold Ross of Longmont, Colorado, Bernie Ross of Shelby, Ohio and Charles Ross of Nova, Ohio; two nieces, Barbara Touby Traven of Shelby and Karen Ross Lee of Athens, Greece; and numerous great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1983; parents; and two sisters, Betty Ross Touby French and Janet Ross Jones.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 1, 2003 at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors at 1:00 p.m. Friends may call at the funeral home one hour prior to funeral services. Committal service will follow in Mansfield Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the hospice of the donor's choice in memory of Helen.
