
Herschel J. "Hersh" Miller, 85, of Mansfield, died Thursday, December 17, 2009 at home. Born June 9, 1924 in Ashland, he was the son of Herschel E. and Ella Rissler Miller, Sr. He graduated from Mansfield Senior High School in 1942 and served in the Army Air Corps during WWII. Herschel was a life member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church where he was active in the council and served as Superintendent of Sunday School. He retired as vice president of sales at Petersen Tire after 40 years of service and for years hosted Petersen Tire Magic Word Program on the News at Noon on WMAN. A volunteer with the American Cancer Society, he was also an active member of the VFW of Ontario #7651, Venus Lodge 152, Baku Grotto, Ancient and Accepted Order of Scottish Rite, Valley of Canton, and the Liederkranz.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Norma Jean Hildebrand Miller; daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl and Bruce Mabee of Ann Arbor, Michigan, and their sons, Zach and Drew; son and daughter-in-law, Ron and Charlotte Miller of Hudson, Ohio and his daughters, Megan Chad Hanke, and Abigail Miller; brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Midge Miller of Loudonville; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of loyal friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Marie Stotts, and Mary Hawkins; and brothers, Robert and Donald Miller.
Friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, December 20, 2009 at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Rd., Mansfield. Masonic services will follow calling hours at 5 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Paul Lutheran Church conducted by Rev. Richard Beal. Military graveside services will follow in Mansfield Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church.
