
Ivan H. Carte, 79, of Mansfield, died Thursday, January 17, 2008 at his home following an extended illness. Born July 31, 1928 in Fraziers Bottom, West Virginia, he was the son of Hershel Robert and Bertha Doss Carte. He retired from Fisher Body in 1987. On May 1, 1951, he married Lottie Ashworth Carte. Ivan was a member of Stiving Road Free Will Baptist Church and served as a deacon for over 40 years. He was the oldest ordained deacon in the Northern Ohio Conference. Ivan enjoyed playing Gospel Music and sang with the group Glory Bound for over 40 years. The band played at nursing homes and sang throughout the state of Ohio. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting.
He is survived by his wife, Lottie Ashworth Carte; son, Ivan "Larry" Carte of Mansfield; daughter, Barbara Shaver of Mansfield; three granddaughters, Michelle Abrams, Jennifer Kegley, and Rachel Todd Patton, all of Mansfield; grandson, Cory Crooks of Mansfield; eight great-grandchildren, Cheyenne, Kaitlin, Joe "Ivan", Kelsey, Lewis, Logan, Jordan, and Jada; two brothers, Carroll "Buck" Sandy Carte of Johnsville, and Dennis Lois Carte of Fredericktown; seven sisters, Edna Romine of Mansfield, Mary Gillispie of Mt. Gilead, Clara Jim Hammond of Ashland, Elma Orr of Loudonville, Helen Corns of Johnsville, Audrey Bigelow of Mansfield, and Lois Pete Thomas of Bellville; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers-in-law; and nephew, Lloyd Gill.
Friends may call from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, January 20, 2008 at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 21 at the Stiving Road Free Will Baptist Church conducted by Pastor Roger Keen, Rev. Clifford Earl Tackett, and Darryl Harless. Burial will follow in Shauck Cemetery.
