

Ivan D. “Bud” Wallington of Mansfield passed away on September 10, 2012. He was born in Lansing, Michigan on December 20, 1927, the youngest of five children. He spent most of his life in Mansfield. Surviving him are his wife of 57 years, Mary G. Wallington and his four children, Lynn (Doug) Seiler of Mansfield, Lee (Ian) Alexander of King of Prussia, PA, Scot Wallington of Malibu, CA and Lori (Tim) Switzer also of Mansfield; and eight grandchildren, Kara and Steven (Sarah) Seiler, James and Cameron Alexander, Hilary and Bryce Wallington and Andru and Bryant Switzer.
Ivan attended Mansfield Senior High. He was class vice president and a member of the National Honor Society. He lettered twice in football. He was also captain of the track team and led the team to a state title winning the high and low hurdles and tied for 3rd in the high jump.
Ivan received a partial scholarship to the University of Michigan for track and football, but was called to military service after a year. He attained the rank of 1st Lieutenant in the United States Army, having served in the Reserves and two tours abroad. He continued his college education as his service allowed and graduated in Business from the University of Michigan.
Ivan then returned to Mansfield and started an accounting business, working there until his retirement. He served on many non profit and corporate Boards of Directors. He was a member of Grace Episcopal Church where he served 34 years as treasurer and several terms on the Vestry.
Ivan was active in the community as a member of numerous professional and social clubs. He played softball as a young adult, played tennis for most of his adult life and played ping-pong every Tuesday night for over 50 years. He enjoyed watching his children, and more recently his grandchildren, in their numerous activities and sports.
Ivan has received honors from the University Club, the Mansfield Athletic Hall of Fame (1999), was named to the All-Ohio Track team, and was State Champion in High and Low Hurdles. Ivan has been a vital part of the community and supported Mansfield in many ways over the years.
Ivan will be greatly missed by family and friends.
A memorial service will be held at Grace Episcopal Church on Saturday, September 15, 2012 at 3:00 p.m. conducted by Rev. David Sipes. Following the service the family will receive friends in the Community Room. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
