

Jack H. Merchant, 75, of Perrysville, passed away Tuesday morning, July 31, 2018, at OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital. He was born February 22, 1943, in Mansfield, Ohio, to the late Elmer and Viva (Herman) Merchant.
He graduated from Lucas High School in 1961 and worked at Tappan Co. for 22 years. He then owned the Wayside Inn for 22 years and was in charge of the softball fields, while also farming. He was a member of Moose Lodge #341 in Mansfield and enjoyed trap shooting.
He was married for 54 years to Patricia Milligan Merchant and adored his family. He especially enjoyed fishing with his grandson.
Jack is survived by his wife, Patricia Merchant; two sons, Mike Merchant and Mark Merchant; one grandson, Robert Merchant; a brother, James Merchant; a sister-in-law, Marilyn Minich; a brother-in-law, Ronald (Ida) Milligan; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a half-sister, Louise Talaga; four brothers-in-law, Leon, Richard and James Milligan and David Minich; a sister-in-law, Wanda Milligan; and a nephew, Greg McKinley.
The family will receive friends from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Friday, August 3, 2018, at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 98 S. Diamond St., Mansfield. The funeral service conducted by Pastor Matthew Pond will follow at 10:30 a.m. He will be laid to rest in Greenlawn Union Cemetery, Perrysville, Ohio. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
