

James Henry Carter, 77, of Mansfield, went home to be with the Lord on Father's Day, June 17, 2018, surrounded by his beloved family and friends. He was born June 4, 1941, in Wilmington, Ohio, to the late James Webster and Margaret (Roberson) Carter.
Jimmy was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving from 1959-1965. He retired from UPS, where he worked in management. He was also a semi truck driver, Site Director of Roadmaster Driving School and President of Ohio River Valley Llama Association. On November 3, 1998, he married the love of his life, Vickie Jett. He enjoyed vacationing with his wife in their motor home. Much of Jimmy's free time was spent fishing, hunting and attending NASCAR races having visited most of the racetracks. Jimmy was an avid Ohio State football fan. Spending time with his family was his most favorite way to pass the time.
Jimmy always had funny stories and jokes and many were the subject of his pranks he loved to pull. He enjoyed sitting under his favorite shade tree. Jimmy forever touched and inspired the lives of all whom had the pleasure of knowing him. He will always be loved an sadly missed until his family sees him again.
He is survived by his wife, Vickie Carter; children, Travis (Brianna) Waddell, Lisa (Howard) Dickson, James Todd Carter, Tia (Todd) Kegler, and Howard (Heather) Carter; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; three brothers-in-law, Thomas (Sally) Jett, Tony (Edna) Jett, and Terry (Noreen) Jett; sister-in-law, DonnaLynna Bowers; and several nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents; and son, James Christopher Carter.
A celebration will be held Sunday June 24, 2018 from 12:00-3:00 p.m., with military honors presented from the U.S. Navy at 2:00 p.m., at the Jessing Center, 7625 N. High St., Columbus, OH 43235 on the grounds of the Josephinum College. It is located at interstate 270 and state route 23 north. Directional signs will guide you to Jessing Center. Wappner Cremation Center is privileged to serve the family.
