He graduated from Mansfield Senior High School with the help of his classmate and future wife, Elaine Hartley.
After a vacation in Korea with the 25th Infantry Division as S/Sgt. he graduated from Ashland College.
Jim and Elaine moved to their farm in 1960 where they raised their 5 children, Don Cook, Brad (Teresa) Cook, Phil Cook, Kate (Gordy) Peters & Matt (Cindy) Cook, all of whom survive him except Phil who was killed in an auto accident in 1975 and Elaine who passed away in 2020.
He retired from teaching at North Central State College where he was a member of the engineering faculty.
No funeral services are planned, the family will hold a private gathering of remembrance at a later time.
