James M. Schafer, 69, of West Longview Ave. Mansfield, OH died Thursday, October 26, 2000 at his residence. He was born December 16, 1930 in New London, OH to Walter & Dorothy Holmes Schafer. Mr. Schafer attended Lincoln Heights Baptist Church. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Navy serving in the Korean Conflict and had retired as a truck driver for Sprint.
He is survived by his wife, Martha 'Marti' Schafer; three children all of Louisiana; one step-daughter of Bridgeport, WV; one step-son of Galion, OH; three step-sons of Mansfield, OH; one step-son of Ontario, OH; numerous grandchildren, step-grandchildren, and step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Holmes in 1998.
Friends may call at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, Sunday, October 29, 2000 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 30, 2000 at 12:00 p.m. at the funeral home, conducted by Pastor Johnny W. Collett. Military graveside services will be held at Oak Grove Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association or MedCentral Hospice.
