
Janet L. Marsteller Carlson, 88, of Ashland, died Saturday, May 19, 2007, at Samaritan Regional Health System. Born May 16, 1919, in Ferdonia, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of Earl and Hannah Foster Marsteller. She graduated from Penn High in Greenville, Pennsylvania and attended Slippery Rock State Teachers College for two years. Mrs. Carlson married Don Carlson in Hadley, Pennsylvania, came to Ohio and lived at England Crude Oil Pumping Station. They then bought a home on Orange Hill where they had a refrigeration and air conditioning business. Janet took service calls for 15 years. Don left Ashland and gave up the business after 35 years. Janet worked 20 years at Ashland Theological Seminary at Ashland College. She was a caregiver for an elderly lady for seven years. She was a volunteer at Associated Charities was a menu taker at Samaritan Hospital. She was a member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church over 50 years and was in the Crusaders Sunday School class, president of trustee board and other organizations. Janet was a former member of Republic ladies club, civil welfare league, Green Thumbs Garden Club, Air Force Mothers Club, Girl Scout leader at Lincoln Grade School. She was chief cook at the Senior Citizens Center for luncheon for the trustee board and chief cook when the Senior Center had a cafeteria at the fair for five years. She quit cooking only due to ill health and continued to work with the clothing department at the Senior Center.
She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Fryman of Mansfield; son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Belinda Carlson of Jacksonville, FL; three grandchildren, Erika Carlson of Boston, MA, Keith Tammy Fryman of Mansfield, and Kristi Rob Green of Shelby; three great-grandchildren, Jordanne, Lucas, and Levi Green; and brother and sister-in-law, Ivan and Phyllis Marsteller of Clearwater, FL; and two sisters-in-law, Amelia Marsteller of Ocala, FL and Helen Carlson of OH. She was preceded in death by her parents; son-in-law, Otis Fryman; and brother, Emmett Marsteller.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 24 at 2:00 p.m. at the Ashland Home of Wappner Funeral Directors conducted by Rev. James A. Scott. Friends may call at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in Ashland Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to the Emmanuel United Methodist Church or the Senior Center.
