Jo Ann Ulery passed away Thursday, February 24, 2011 surrounded by her family following a courageous battle with cancer. Jo Ann was born on April 17, 1936 in Mansfield, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Isabelle Balcolm.
Jo Ann is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, Dean; two sons, Michael of Dublin and Jeff and Vickie Ulery of Lucas; and grandsons, Nathan, Nick, and Noah. She is survived by brothers, James Balcolm Helen of Mansfield, Jack Balcolm Cindy of Mansfield, and sister, Judy Sauls Larry of Austin, TX, as well as nieces and nephews and her beloved dog, Magic.
Jo Ann was a lifelong resident of the area and enjoyed seeing friends everywhere that she went. She was a graduate of Mansfield Senior High in 1954. She worked for 28 years at the bank in Lucas and enjoyed interacting with her coworkers, customers, and their children, always providing them with a warm smile and some candy for the children.
She was an avid tennis player as a young lady, winning the Mansfield News Journal tournament several times and enjoyed playing with her family and friends. Later, Jo Ann took up her next passion, golf, with equal gusto. She was a member of the Shelby Country Club and played in leagues at several local courses. Jo Ann had four hole-in-one's during her playing time. Modesty, as always, she did not even tell her children. Jo Ann loved to watch her grandchildren perform in sports and to always provide encouragement, love, and snack money.
