

Joan Smith, age 88, died peacefully at home in her daughter’s arms February 21, 2014. She was born in Nebraska on February 28, 1925, the daughter of Hazel Wagner and Mark Hartley. Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband, John Francis Lumbert, her second husband, Marshall Abbott Smith, and her son Marshall Landers Smith.
Joan grew up in Los Angeles, California where she attended high school and junior college. She then lived in Hawaii, Columbus, Ohio, Sandusky, Ohio, Naples, Florida and later moved to Mansfield, Ohio. Joan was an avid reader who loved her many dogs, and absolutely adored children. She belonged to many organizations and clubs during her life and was a member of St. Albans Episcopal Church, Bexley, Ohio.
Joan is survived by her remaining children Sharon Smith of New Orleans, Mark Hartley Smith of Naples, Florida, Steven Lumbert of Naples, Florida and Marla Lumbert Cole(Alan) of Mansfield. She loved her son-in law, Alan as if he were one of her own children. They had a very special bond. She is survived by her grandchildren, Chelsea Smith O’Brien, Marshall Smith, Alexandra Cole (Lexxie), Ian Cole, and Camille Lumbert.
Friends may call at her daughter and son-in-laws home, Marla Lumbert and Alan Cole, 1525 Oak Run Ct. Sunday March 2, from 2 to 6pm.
