

John W. Casler, 76, of Mansfield, died Wednesday evening, April 6, 2005, at Riverside Methodist Hospital, Columbus following a brief illness. Born June 20, 1928, in Mansfield, he was the son of Emmett O. and Clara A. Zellner Casler. John retired from Mansfield Tire and Rubber Company after 32 years of service and also retired as a bus driver for Crestview Schools. He was a member of Faith United Methodist Church. John loved carpentry and building houses and was in the process of finishing the log home he designed and built. He was an avid collector of John Deere memorabilia and loved the outdoors.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce Casler; two sons, John A. Casler of Los Angeles, Cal., and Danny W. Casler of Mansfield; two daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara J. and Larry L. Petee and Cynthia K. and William R. Aumend, Sr., all of Mansfield; a stepson, Michael Steurer; and two stepdaughters, Marilyn J. Steurer and Janice E. Taylor; six grandchildren; five step grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; four step great-grandchildren; and five sisters and their spouses, Juanita Askey, Phyllis and Gene Drummond, all of Mansfield, Ruth Standiford of Plano, Tex., Shirley and Leonard Payne of Waynesburg, Pa., and Kathy and Rev. Edward Farmer of Frakes, Ky. He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Fern Wellman Casler on December 16, 1995; brothers, Emmett L. and Maxie Casler; and sister, Alverda Amend.
Friends may call at the Diamond Street home of Wappner Funeral Directors, Sunday, April 10 from 5-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Monday at 10:30 a.m. at Faith United Methodist Church, formerly Franklin Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Franklin Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
