
John G. Fraifogl, 82, of Mansfield, died Thursday afternoon, July 17, 2003 at MedCentral Mansfield following an extended illness. Mr. Fraifogl was born October 12, 1920 in Crestline, Ohio residing in the Mansfield area all of his life. He retired as manager of office services from Tappan Co. in 1984 after 25 years of service. Prior to working at Tappan Co. he was the owner of Johnny's Confectionary on the corner of W. Park Blvd and W. 4th St. He was a member of First English Lutheran Church. John was also a member of Liederkranz, Retmans Club, AARP #718 and AARP #4637 of Mifflin, Lexington Depot, Amvets Post #26, and a charter member of VFW Post #7651 in Ontario, and charter member and instructor of the Mansfield Skin Divers Club. He also volunteered at First English Lutheran Church. Mr. Fraifogl was a veteran of the United States Navy serving during World War II in the Pacific Theater as a carrier fighter pilot, instructor and test pilot. He was commissioned at Pensacola Naval Base and was married the same day. John and his wife spent 27 years at East Harbor in Marine City at their cottage and boat. He enjoyed woodworking, playing pool and cherished the time he spent with his family.
Surviving are his wife of 59 1/2 years, Minnie Mini Drescher Fraifogl of Mansfield; three sons including twin sons and daughters-in-law, Jerry and Nancy and John L. and Pat; and Jim and Mary Fraifogl all of Mansfield; six grandchildren and their spouses, Toby and Amanda Fraifogl of Michigan; Amy and Ron Rose of Mansfield; Dr.'s Angela and Martin Lesnak of Maryland; Mike Fraifogl and his fiancé, Sarah Moritz of Strongsville; Jennifer Fraifogl and Ben Fraifogl both of Mansfield; one sister, Elizabeth Braddock of Indiana; one brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bill and Ruth Drescher of Mansfield; and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, John A. and Elizabeth Young Fraifogl.
Friends may call at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors on Sunday July 20, 2003 from 6-8 p.m. and one hour prior to funeral services, which will be held on Monday at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home conducted by the Rev. Cloyd Kress of First English Lutheran Church. The Richland County Joint Veterans Burial Detail will conduct military services at the funeral home. Since John will be cremated following the services, his wishes were, that in lieu of flowers contributions be made to the First English Lutheran Church.
