

John Gadfield, 70, of Mansfield lost his battle to cancer on Tuesday, July 19, 2016, in his home. A lifelong resident of Mansfield, John was born November 2, 1945, to Frank M. and Helen McBride Gadfield, who preceded him in death.
He was a 1963 graduate of Mansfield Senior High School and served on their reunion committee. John served in the US Army Reserves from 1967 thru 1971 in the 359th Civil Affairs Unit. He was a skilled plumber and electrician by trade and worked for his father at Gadfield Builders. John was also a member of the Mansfield Home Builder’s Association.
John had many passions throughout his life. He was an avid boater, fisherman, ping pong player, tennis player and he had an appreciation for beautiful yards. He enjoyed working with his hands and had a passion for fixing or refurbishing just about anything to help others. He was also a member of the Mansfield Power Squadron boating club.
John had a wonderful sense of humor throughout his life. He was known for his puns and corny jokes to add enjoyment for others.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Bryan and Kelly Gadfield of Bellville; daughter and son-in-law, Bethany and Mark Netzel of Houston, TX; five grandchildren Jacob, Eryn and Anthony Gadfield of Bellville, as well as Liam and Desleigh Netzel of Houston, TX; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary Jane and Philip Hamilton of Cross Plains, WI and Gwenn and Karl Minke of Cleveland; three nephews and their spouses, Jeff and Kim Thwing of McKinney, TX, Brad and Chris Thwing of North Olmsted, OH and Ian and Gabriela Hamilton of Germany.
John had twin daughters, Brindi and Brittney who preceded him in death.
The family will receive friends from 1:00-4:00 p.m. Sunday, July 24, 2016, at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Road. The funeral service will be held Monday at 9:00 a.m. in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Mansfield Cemetery with military honors presented by the U.S. Army. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of North Central Ohio.
