

John Robert 'Red' Lutz, age 71, of 686 Annfield Drive, died Wednesday morning March 27, 2002 at MedCentral/Mansfield Hospital following an extended illness. Mr. Lutz was born March 13, 1931 in Perrysville, Ohio living in the Mansfield area for the past 46 years. He was a retired Truck Driver for Eichleay Corp. Mr. Lutz was a member of Oakland Lutheran Church where he had served on council. He was a member of Sons of Herman Mansfield Lodge #14, American Legion Post #16, Mansfield Retired Teamsters Club; a life member VFW Post #8586; and veteran of the United States Marines serving during the Korean Conflict. John and wife, Nancy along with several other couples organized 'Concerned Friends', a support group for parents who have lost children. John volunteered services in Haiti several times for humanitarian work. Volunteered with Community Action in their Food Commodity Program. He was a previous member of Men's Garden Club at Kingwood Center. John enjoyed gardening, hunting and traveling.
Surviving are his wife of 46 years, Nancy Starner Lutz; a daughter and son-in-law, Brenda & J. Patrick Barile of Galion; two grandchildren, Dylan & Kelsi; sisters and brothers-in-law, Maxine Smith of Mansfield; Dale Lutz of Lima, Ohio; Donna & Paul Fortune and Emma Fortune all of Mifflin, Marcella & Carroll Beasley of Widowville, Ohio; Marion & Carol Lutz of Ashland; Lucille Spring of Winchester Nursing Home and a number of nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, Timothy; his parents, John F. Lutz and Eva Mae Ayers Lutz Bucher; two sisters and two brothers.
Friends may call at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors Friday March 29, 2002 from 5-8 p.m. with a wake service being held at 7:45 p.m. by Father John Jorden. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home, conducted by Vicars, Amy Little and Mary Anne Powrie. Military graveside services will be held at Mansfield Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to the Oakland Lutheran Church.
