
John Michael Thull, 78, of Mansfield, died Monday, February 12, 2007, at MedCentral Mansfield Hospital. Born October 26, 1928, in Mansfield, he was the son of John Mathias and Eva Mohler Thull. His parents moved to New York City when he was very young. He attended school in New York, graduating from Xavier Military Academy in 1946, returning to Mansfield in 1948 where his aunts and uncles still lived. John served during the Korean War in the Army Transportation Corp. servicing the 'USAK' Express at Taejon and 'Personnel & Freight' traffic at Seoul City Airport in 1952. He was one of the first employees of the original Convey-all Corporation and worked there for 39 years prior to its closure in 1988. John then was self-employed as a Consultant/Design Engineer of Industrial Conveyors until his retirement in 1993. He was the last of the third of six generations of Thulls who have lived in Mansfield since 1890. He was a member of the American Legion Post #16, Amvets Post #26, V.F.W. Post #3494 and Korean War Veteran's Association #51.
John is survived by four daughters, Mary Steven Krempel of Mentor on the Lake, Marge Bruce Phipps, Joan Vincent Owens, all of Mansfield and Melinda Dennis Currens of Bellville; son, John M. Thull, II of Mansfield; eleven grandchildren, Jennifer Krempel Derek Bieder, Dan, Robert Amanda Kepner, and Kenneth Krempel, Patrick and Dustin Owens, John III, Brandon and Jillian Thull, Christopher and Andrews Currens; great-grandchildren, Xander Owens Bago and MaKenna Krempel; aunt, Sue Mohler Walter MacAskill of Yuma, AZ; sister-in-law, Rita William Thull; brother-in-law, William Joy Letang; four nieces and nephews; and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Thull and Eva Mohler Thull-Roehm; his wife of 37 years, Madalyn Letang Thull in 1991 whom he married August 22, 1953; granddaughter, Noel Owens in December 1985; and brother, William J. Thull in May 1990.
Friends may call Friday, February 16 from 5-8 p.m. at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors. Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday at St. Peter's Catholic Church at 10:00 a.m. Military graveside services conducted by Richland County Joint Veteran's Burial Detail will follow in Mansfield Catholic Cemetery.
