Kenneth Clyde Bonham passed peacefully into the arms of the Lord on the evening of Saturday, November 30, 2024, at his home in Mansfield, Ohio. A lifelong resident of Mansfield, Kenny lived a life full of love, laughter, and service, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew him. For 28 years, Kenny shared his life with his loving partner, Patty Dowdy. Together, they created a relationship that was a haven of warmth, hospitality, and celebration. Kenny's joy for life and his dedication to family and friends was evident in everything he did.
A1961 St. Peter's High School graduate, Kenny remained connected to his classmates throughout his life, joining them monthly for breakfast. After high school, Kenny attended and graduated from Kent State University. During his time at Kent State, he was a proud Phi Delta Theta fraternity member, forming lifelong friendships that he deeply cherished.
Kenny answered the call to serve his country as a commissioned officer in the United States Army. During his service in Vietnam with the 572nd Transportation Company, known as the "Gypsy Bandits," Kenny demonstrated extraordinary courage and dedication, earning a Bronze Star for gallantry. He maintained close relationships with his military brothers, especially his dear friend and Jeep driver, Pete Karous.
After his honorable discharge in July 1969, Kenny built a successful career as an entrepreneur and business professional. Over the years, he made significant contributions to the Mansfield and local business community through roles at KBZ Electric, BITS Inc., and Craig Smith RV Center, where he retired. Kenny's commitment to supporting the local economy and fostering community businesses earned him the respect of many.
Kenny had many passions. He was a devoted Cleveland sports fan, especially the Cleveland Browns. He once served as president of the Mansfield Browns Backers Club, uniting fellow fans in their shared love of the Browns. Kenny was also a lifelong Catholic and a member of St. Peter's Parish, giving generously of his time and talents to support his community. Kenny hosted many joyful gatherings. He loved Christmas, always decorating his home and welcoming family and friends with open arms. Each summer, Kenny and Patty hosted their legendary luau party, a tradition that brought many friends and family together. With a cold Budweiser always on hand and an open invitation, Kenny welcomed all.
Most of all, Kenny was devoted to his family. He is survived by his sister, Janet (Tim) Whatman; three children, Vicki Bonham Belanger (Ed Frey), Brad (Meg) Bonham, and Yvonne Bonham (James Bartley); three step-children, Carey McKenzie, Johnny Ray Kemplin, Angie Johnson; seven grandchildren, Shelley Belanger (Brian Burt), Tyler (Megan) Crowley, Katie (Mike) Anderson, Erin Bonham, Sarah Bonham, Cole Bonham, and Jazzmine Bonham; and two great-grandchildren, Levi Crowley and Quin Anderson.
A Catholic Mass celebrating Kenny's life will be held at St. Peter's Parish in Mansfield, Ohio, on Friday, January 17, 2025, at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that charitable contributions be made in Kenny's name to Smile Train or St. Peter's Parish. Kenny Bonham lived a life of love, service, and joy. His kindness, humor, and generous spirit will be deeply missed but forever remembered.
