

Larry B. Berger, 97, of Mansfield, passed into the loving arms of Jesus on Friday, June 10, 2016. He was born August 14, 1918, in Turtle Creek, Pennsylvania, to the late Joseph and Mary (Egloff) Berger.
He was a veteran of WWII serving in the U.S. Army. He worked at Sears and Roebuck. He then worked at Westinghouse Corp. in the water treatment area retiring after 38 years. He was a faithful member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Florida and served as a Eucharist minister. While living in Mansfield, he was a member of St. Mary of the Snows Catholic Church and was an usher. Larry wintered in Florida for many years before retiring there full time. In 2007, he moved back to Mansfield and became a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church. He enjoyed playing golf in his leisure time. Larry enjoyed negotiating and came home with a different used car every so often.
The family wishes to express special appreciation for the loving care given to Larry from all the staff of Primrose Retirement Community, Kindred Hospice, Dr. Padival and his staff, and Fathers Hite and Miller of St. Peter's Catholic Church.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Alta M. Berger; daughter, Sharon K. Berger of Mansfield; step children, Cheryl Simpson of Georgia, Linda Palmisano of Ohio, Steven (Betsy) Martin of Nevada; loving sisters, Loretta Parr, Mary Kramer, Helen (Tom) Stanton; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by six brothers, Joseph (Eleanor) Berger, Eugene (Garnet) Berger, August (Frances) Berger, Al (Katherine) Berger, Elmer (Jane) Berger and Ralph (Frances) Berger; and brothers-in-law, Bill Parr and Richard Kramer.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Monday, June 13, 2016, at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Road, with a Vigil Service at 5:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be recited Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Peter's Catholic Church, 104 W. First St., Mansfield. Burial will follow in Mansfield Catholic Cemetery with military honors presented by the Richland County Joint Veterans Burial Detail and U.S. Army. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Peter's Catholic Church Development Campaign.
