Leona Mitchell

Leona Mae Frank Mitchell, age 91, of Mansfield, died Friday, April 2, 2004 at Alterra Sterling House. Mrs. Mitchell was born May 5, 1912, in Galion, Ohio to Harmon and Bessie Winters Frank. She graduated from Galion High School in 1930, then moving to Lucas. On April 11, 1936, she married Paul W. Mitchell, who preceded her in death in June 2000. Mrs. Mitchell retired in 1976 after many years of service with the Richland County Treasurer's office. She was a member and past-President of the Dolly Madison Club and a secretary of the Richland County Democratic Central Committee. She was an active member of First English Lutheran Church and a member of the Mary Group. She volunteered as a seamstress for 'The Store'. Her passions were her family, friends, playing cards, traveling and sewing. She will be remembered for her love and contagious big smile.

Mrs. Mitchell is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Paula and James Spangler of Mansfield; two sons and a daughter-in-law, James F. Mitchell of Toledo and John C. and Martha Mitchell of Webster Groves, Missouri; six grandchildren and their spouses, Drs. Kelly and Jennifer Mitchell of Lubbock, Texas, Traci K. Mitchell of Columbus, Dr. Mark M. and Ann Spangler of Gibson City, Illinois, Todd J. and Kelly Spangler of Atlanta, Georgia, and Clifford and Kelsey Mitchell of Webster Groves; six great-granddaughters, Emily, Katherine and Shannon Spangler, all of Gibson City, Kendall and Karson Spangler of Atlanta, and Meghan Mitchell of Lubbock; a sister-in-law, Janet Frank; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a sister, Kathryn LeBourveau, and two brothers, Clayton Frank and Russell Frank.

Friends may call at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, Tuesday, April 6 from 4-7 p.m. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at First English Lutheran Church, conducted by Rev. Cloyd E. Kress. Burial will follow in Mansfield Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to First English Lutheran Church.
