
Leonard M. "Mel" Porter, 79, of Mansfield, Ohio passed away on Friday, January 15, 2021 at OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital. He was born December 11, 1941 in Seattle, Washington to the late Leonard Porter and Aletta Yerkovich.
Mel was a proud veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He was stationed in Scotland and was a Morse code intercept operator. He retired from Frito Lay after over 30 years as a delivery truck driver. Mel was a fan of Elvis Presley and enjoyed listening to classic rock. Mel was a member of the Johnny Appleseed Square Dance Club where he and his wife, Mona, danced. Mel was a great athlete and played volleyball, basketball and softball. He was also an avid golfer and would travel around the state to golf. He played his last round this past fall. He loved to support and attend his children's and grandchildren's sporting events. Mel attended Crossroads Community Church for over 20 years.
Mel is survived by his wife, Mona (McPeek) Porter; twin sons, Erik Porter and Barry (Danielle) Porter; two step-children, Matthew Schwan and Kristina Loesch; six grandchildren; sister, Linda (Chuck) Sinclair; brother, Michael (Carrie) Yerkovich; and one niece and one nephew.
Due to the pandemic, a memorial service will be held at a later date when the world is a safer place. Memorial contributions may be made to Crossroads City Center, 29 N. Main Street, Mansfield, OH 44902. The Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors is honored to serve the family.
