

Marian was born June 5, 1925 in Columbus, Ohio to Harry and Janet McCall Lake. She grew up in Sunbury, Ohio and graduated as salutatorian in the Sunbury High School class of 1943. Marian attended The Ohio State University and graduated in 1947 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics. She was honored to be selected to attend the Merrill-Palmer Early Childhood Education Program in Detroit during college.
After college, she taught home economics at Cardington High School until her marriage to Russell Patterson. They celebrated 64 years of marriage prior to his death in 2015. Marian and Russell built their home in Lexington in 1958 where she lived until 2016. She was a homemaker until her children finished school then operated her own business, “Window Shop,” until retirement.
Marian attended Central United Methodist Church in Mansfield and later Church of the Cross in Lexington.
She was a special, independent woman who had varied hobbies including rebuilding a car with her son, Mark, sewing, traveling, garden club, church circle and shopping for bargains. Marian was a friend to everyone she met and will be remembered for her kindness, care and compassion for her family and others.
Marian was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Ed Lake, and many extended Lake and Patterson family members. She is survived by sons, Mark Patterson and Jon (Terri) Patterson, daughter, Jodi (Bob) Schraedly, and grandchildren Lauryl and Andrew (fiancée Lindsay Stout) Schraedly, Paige (Mitch) Dever, Shane, Jake and Brian Patterson, and sister- in-law, Guian Lake.

A private graveside memorial was held to honor Marian’s life. In lieu of flowers the family asks that you consider a memorial contribution in Marian’s memory to the Church of the Cross, 236 Otterbein Drive, Lexington, Ohio 44904, or to Richland County Humane Society, 3025 Park Avenue West, Mansfield, Ohio, 44906.
