
Martha Carolyn Baker Baker went home to be with the Lord, early Wednesday morning July 15, 2009. She was born October 14, 1922 to Joseph and Kathryn Griffith Baker in Blairsville, Pennsylvania. Martha had recently retired from MedCentral Mansfield Hospital after 33½ years in the Food and Nutrition Department. She was a member of the Diamond Hills Baptist Church where she had made many friends. In her younger days, Martha was a Sunday school teacher and was active in the Girl Scouts. Noted for the hundreds of cookies she baked at Christmas time and her special rum cake, Martha was an accomplished cook.
She is survived by her children, John Baker and Mary Baker, both of Mansfield; four granddaughters, Mary Ann Rodney Crider of Pavonia, Rosemary Jimmy Jones of Harvest, AL, Jamie Glen Woods Mills and Margaret Scott Milligan, all of Mansfield; five great-granddaughters and two great-grandsons; one great-great granddaughter; five brothers, Joe Baker of CA, Edgar Kristine Baker of Wilmington, DE, R.E. Baker, Arthur Nancy Baker and R.J. "Andy" JoAnn Baker, all of Blairsville; three sisters, Margaret Lecht of Esters, PA, Edith Scobel and Mildred Ken Pittman, all of Blairsville, PA; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, John S. Baker; parents; brother, William Baker; and sister, Dorothy Baker.
Funeral services will be Friday, July 17, 2009, at 1:30 p.m. at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors with Pastor Christopher Thomas officiating. Friends may visit from 12:30-1:30 p.m. Burial will follow in Mansfield Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to Diamond Hills Baptist Church, 647 S. Diamond St., Mansfield, Ohio 44907.
