Martha Montague, daughter of Ralph and Jennie Winkler, sister, Darla Winkler Klukas, who survives, devoted teacher, talented seamstress, avid reader, skillful with carpentry tools, and devoted friend, passed away April 23, 2024, at noon after many years of various physical incursions.
She was educated in Madison School system, after which she graduated with a Bachelor of Science and a Masters in Education. She had 33 years of 5th grade teaching at Lexington Elementary School.
She was a member of Sister City, P.E.O. President many years of the Mansfield Garden Club, and a member of Lexington Presbyterian Church. The Montague home was hospitable to all, with partaking of Martha’s cooking. Her love of animals included 8 felines and a dog named Cleo. Susan the cat is her present companion.
During her life with her husband, Bob, their annual vacations trips were to the New England states where they acquired unusual and interesting articles. The other travel was to England, Japan, the Danube River, and various points in the U.S.
She is preceded in death by her parents, cousins, aunts, and uncles, also by six cousins, one nephew and niece. Martha will be remembered for her creativity, hospitality, steadfastness, determination, and her faith in God.
A gathering of family and friends will be held Saturday, May 4, 2024 from 10:00-11:00 am at Wappner Funeral Directors-Mansfield, 98 S. Diamond. A Celebration of Life will follow at 11:00 am with Pastor Dennis Nezrick officiating. Martha will be laid to rest at a private committal at Pioneer Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Richland County.
