Marvin "Samp" Fred Underwood, Jr.

Marvin Fred "Samp" Underwood, Jr., 81, of Mansfield, died Friday, December 18, 2015 at Crestwood Care Center in Shelby. Born December 7, 1934 in Richlands, Virginia, he was the son of Marvin Fred Underwood, Sr. and Dalphina (Hunnell) Underwood.

He was the owner and operator of Underwood Electric for over 40 years and was a former Richland County Electrical Inspector. Known as a jack of all trades, he was always helping on family projects.

He is survived by his wife, Wilma J. (Whitt) Underwood; three sons, Jesse (Jody) Underwood of Mansfield, Craig (Kim) Underwood and Monte (Brenda) Underwood all of Ontario; grandchildren, Brittiny Underwood of Ontario, Katie Underwood of Des Moines, Iowa, Heath Underwood (fiancée Kassie Chiles) of Lexington, Cooper Underwood of Ontario, Andrew Underwood of Mansfield and Carter Underwood of Ontario; two great grandchildren, Hunter Montgomery and Hannah Montgomery; three sisters, Betty Payne of Mansfield, Dana (Sam) Kennedy of Richlands, Virginia and Elaine (Buford) Short - Raven, Virginia; two brothers, Danny Underwood of Richlands, Virginia and Buddy Blankenship of Sparta, North Carolina; nephew, Michael (Shirley) Hill of Bellville; niece, Karen Hill of Mansfield; and numerous cousins.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step mother, Mabel Houchins Underwood; two step brothers, Tommy Blankenship and Donald Blankenship; two step sisters, Jeraldine Roberts and Janet Ann Bullion; and a niece, Teresa Ramirez.

Private services will be held for the family.
