Mary Ruth Ayers, 83, of Mansfield died early Friday morning, January 11, 2002 at Mifflin Care Center. Miss Ayers was born October 19, 1917, in Mansfield to William A. and Rebecca R. Kuntz Ayers. Her parents were officers in the Salvation Army, stationed in Mansfield where they were in charge of the local facility, where Mary Ruth made her home. She followed her parents' example by being a member of the Salvation Army and the Home League. Despite her limitations, Mary Ruth had a beautiful voice and loved to sing. She was adored by many and was a loving, caring person.
She is survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Betty Ayers and Henry F. Ott of Mansfield; two nieces, Becki Smith Shick and Susan Smith Leach of Mansfield; and many good friends at the Salvation Army and Mifflin Care Center. Her parents, William and Rebecca Ayers, sister, Sylvia Pugh, and brothers, Paul and William Ayers all preceded her in death.
There will be no services. Private family burial will be in Mansfield Cemetery. Wappner Funeral Directors assisted with the arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to The Mansfield Salvation Army.
