

Mary Jane 'Midge' Carpenter Utt, age 81, of Mansfield died Wednesday afternoon May 12, 2004 at MedCentral Mansfield Hospital following a brief illness. Mrs. Utt was born January 5, 1923 in Pennsylvania living in the Mansfield area since 1949. She retired from Therm-O-Disc. Mrs. Utt was a member of First Christian Church. She worked at Madison Jr. High in the cafeteria for 10 years and all the kids at the Junior High called her 'Grandma'. Mrs. Utt was a lifetime member of Ladies Auxiliary VFW #9943.
Surviving are a son & daughter-in-law, Rodger & Darlene Utt of Mansfield; a daughter & son-in-law, Darleen & Bruce Heaberlin of Mansfield; a sister & brother-in-law, Clara Belle & Lexy Snedegar of Akron; a brother & sister-in-law, Johnny & Bonnie Carpenter of Moundsville, West Virginia; three granddaughters, Kelly, Shelly & Anissa; six great-grandchildren; four step-grandsons and very special friends, Sadie Reynolds, Louise Hostetter & Donna Beagle. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Robert Utt January 25, 1987; her parents, William & Dacie Armentrout Carpenter; a daughter, Gloriann Utt; a son, Butch Utt; & three brothers, James, Ted & Cofer Carpenter.
Friends may call at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors Friday from 5-8 p.m. A Ladies Auxiliary VFW service will be held Friday at 7:30 p.m. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10:00 a.m., at the funeral home, conducted by Rev. Dr. Samuel Young. Burial will be held at Mansfield Memorial Park.
