
Mary Estelle Krienbihl Mapes, 89, of Mansfield, died early Tuesday morning, September 19, 2006, at MedCentral Mansfield Hospital. Born March 6, 1917, in Crestline, she was the daughter of Carl and Stella Reindl Kreinbihl. She was formerly employed as the drapery department manager at Montgomery Ward. She was a member of Resurrection Parish and St. Peter's Catholic Churches. During the late 1940s and 50s, Mary volunteered her time to work with the Disabled American Veterans and the Ohio Soldiers and Sailors Relief Commission. She and her husband spent 15 years in the Ft. Myers, Florida area and enjoyed traveling, camping and crafts. Mary and Carl volunteered for and started Bingo at the Lexington Senior Center as well as volunteering for Mansfield Raceway.
She is survived by a son, Thomas Valerie Mapes of Ashland; two daughters, Doris Donald Weiland and Janice Shaffer, all of Lexington; eight grandchildren, Jodie Randy Fry of Lexington, Holly Adam Nolan and Levi Mapes, all of Mansfield, Andy Lisa Weiland of Texas, Chris Pam Shaffer and Dennis Lora Shaffer, all of Columbus, Scott Anna Shaffer of Lexington and Tim Jennifer Shaffer of Sunbury; fifteen great-grandchildren; two brothers, William Betty Kreinbihl and Leonard Mary Ann Kreinbihl, all of Mansfield; a host of nieces and nephews; and special companion, Preston Williams of Mansfield. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl I. Mapes in 1996, son, Richard E. Mapes in 1941, son-in-law, Milton Shaffer in 2001, and half-sister, Catherine Wilbur Tussing in 1960.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, September 25, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Peter's Catholic Church. Friends may call at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors from 9-9:40 a.m. Burial will follow in Mansfield Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Catholic Charities, 35 N. Park St., Mansfield, Ohio 44902.
