Mary F. "Nip" Cole McCready, 85 passed away in the care of MedCentral Hospice after a brief battle with cancer. Nip was born April 25,1929 in Canton Ohio to the late Marvin J. and Mary E. Kokx Cole. She moved to the Mansfield area during her 1st grade year and graduated from Mansfield Senior High School in 1947.
In January of 1950, she married her childhood sweetheart Robert G. (Bob) McCready, celebrating 64 years together and dying within 6 days of one another.
Nip has 3 children: Marty (Becky Shriver) McCready, Laurie (Doug) Boyce and Tom (Julie) McCready. One daughter, Susan McCready died at birth. Nip delighted in her grandchildren: Adam (Amanda) Boyce, Aron (Brittany) Boyce, Graham and Gabe McCready. She knitted many a baby blanket for her grandchildren and great grandchildren: Aiden, Addy, Ashton, Cameron, Gavin and Payton.
Nip and Bob made their beautiful home in a refurbished barn adjoining the family farm on Graham Road where they resided their entire married life, raising their children in the country with horses for the girls and tractors for their son. Nip and Bob enjoyed riding horses and both were advisors to the Circle R 4H Horse Club.
Nip and her family were also very involved at the Clearfork Swim and Tennis Club where Bob was President of the pool board for 2 years and both girls were lifeguards. The family spent many enjoyable hours there.
While Nip worked for the Veteran’s Administration for 3 years, her main occupation was that of wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Nip was also a strong supporter of her husband and his 67 years in the furniture business at W.G. McCready and Sons Furniture and Norwalk The Furniture Idea/McCready Interiors. She also spent many hours with Bob attending and helping at First English Lutheran Church where she was a member all her married life.
Nip thoroughly enjoyed knitting, sewing and quilting when she would finally sit down and take a break from tending to her garden and yard or painting and maintaining her home. And when she sat to enjoy one of those hobbies, she was always accompanied by one of her beloved Cocker Spaniels or cats. Macy, her most recent Cocker Spaniel, was permitted to visit and lay in Nip’s hospital bed with her the night before her death. She perked right up and the two snuggled comfortably for a short time together.
Nip was an avid tennis player and enjoyed playing at the Lakewood Racquet Club and at private courts with friends, playing tennis into her early 80s!
Nip is preceded in death by her husband, sister and brother-in-law Betts and Ray Bush, brother-in-law Don McCready and sister-in-law Cheryl Strohminger. She is survived by her family mentioned above, as well as sister-in-law Lois McCready, brother-in-law Dean Strohminger and many nieces and nephews.
It is quite appropriate that Nip and Bob McCready would pass away within six days of one another as the two did almost everything together in their 64 years of marriage. Family and friends are invited to visit on Tuesday, August 26, 2014 from 3-8 p.m. at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 98 S. Diamond Street, Mansfield. A joint celebration of life will be held for Nip and Bob on Wednesday, August 27, 2014 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home, conducted by Rev. Dale Schaefer and music by Dr. Timothy E. Guenther.
P.S. Bob's final wish is for no ties to be worn at their service!
