

Mattie Elizabeth Bowman, age 88, of Mansfield died Monday, June 21, 2004. Born September 12, 1915 in Greenbrier County, West Virginia, she was the daughter of John R. and Katherine Allen Hamrick. Mrs. Bowman was a member of First Christian Church, active in Rachel Group and CWF Thursday Group. She graduated from Alderson High School and the Hinton School of Nursing. Mattie retired from nursing in 1980 from the Athens Mental Health Center in Athens, Ohio and worked beside her husband, Joe, in Bowman's Department Store in southeastern Ohio for thirty years. She was a member of Lexington Senior Citizens and Civitan.
Surviving are three daughters and sons-in-law, Lana and Paul Robinson of Mansfield, Doris and Ken Gamble of Columbus and Carolyn and Bob Becker of Silver Lake; five grandchildren and their spouses, John and Lisa Robinson, Nathan and Fabiana Robinson, Eric Gamble, Stephen Becker, and Joseph Becker; three great-grandchildren, Quinn and Aidan Robinson and Caleb Oberrath; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Marie and Joe Dickerson of Calypso, North Carolina and Hope and Ted Yost of Charleston, West Virginia; and two brothers, Fred Hamrick and Ernest 'EK' Hamrick, both of Beckley, West Virginia. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph W. Bowman in March 1990, parents, two sisters, Rose Neal and Evelyn Hamrick and two brothers, Robert and Keith Hamrick.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 24 at 11:00 a.m. at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors. Family and friends may call at the funeral home one-hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in Mansfield Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to First Christian Church, 200 W. 3rd St. or The Salvation Army, 47 S. Main St.
