Opal Kerr

Opal Louise Kerr, 85, of Polk, Ohio passed away Sunday morning June 27, 2010, at the Good Shepherd Home following a short illness. She was born November 13, 1924 in Nova, Ohio a daughter of Alfred and Bessie Wells Bryan. She graduated from Nova High School and remained a lifelong resident of Ashland County.

On July 29, 1942 she married Roger W. Kerr who preceded her in death in Dec. of 1995. She is also preceded in death by a daughter, Linda in 1954, a great grandson, Christopher Isaacs in 2008, as well as a sister and brother, Mildred Smetzer and Virgil Bryan.

Roger and Opal had 8 children. Surviving are: Joyce David Herman of Pataskala, Jan Ron Carman of Ontario, Bill Peg Kerr of Ashland; Robert Cindy Kerr of Ashland, Larry Mitzi Kerr of Polk, Donna Steiner Russ King of Rockledge, FL, and Peggy Contos of Waynesburg, 17 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren, 2 step great grandchildren, and in 2010 her first great great grandchild which started the 5th generation during her lifetime.

She was proud of her "wall of holiday stockings" for each family member which were personalized and hung in a line during the holidays. In 2009 there were 65 stockings hung. A memory the family will always cherish in the years to come.

She is also survived by 2 sisters and a brother, Jane Rhoads of S.C., Gene Bryan of Sullivan, and Shirley David Gast of Ashland.

As a housewife, Opal enjoyed working with the animals on the dairy farm and outdoor yard work. In more recent years she continued with her interest in the needs of the yard, reading, and extensive correspondence with family and friends. Her love of animals was known by everyone who knew her. She is survived by her beloved dog named "King" who will be cared for by her sister and brother-in-law.
