

Peter Gottschling, long time master mason and contractor in the Mansfield area, died Sunday, January 18, 2015, at his home in Madison Township at the age of 89. Peter was born in Romania on August 16, 1925 to the late Martin and Sara (Gross) Gottschling. In 1949, he wed Nelly Popp in Austria and she preceded him in death in 1980. In 1955, Peter emigrated to Mansfield, Ohio, and began his career in construction, owning and operating Gottschling Masonry for many years. He was a proud member of the Mansfield Liederkranz and the Sons of Herman for over 50 years.
He is survived by his loving companion, Norma Simmons; two children, Peter Gottschling and his wife, Lynne Aldrich, and Charlotte Alger and her husband, Bruce; two grandsons, Justin and Ryan Alger; as well as four great-grandchildren, all of Dallas, Texas. He is also survived by a nephew and three nieces, Martin Gottschling, Susie Karst, Sara Mellott, Elsa Beer; and four nieces and nephews in Germany, Marie Lamade, Stefan Gottschling, Christine Burkhardt and Stefan Wolff.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, January 22, 2015, at 2:00 p.m. in the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 98 S. Diamond St., Mansfield, with Pastor Renato Siewert officiating. The family will receive friends beginning at 12:00 p.m. Burial in Mansfield Cemetery will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 371 Central Avenue, Mansfield, OH 44905.
