
Ralph Edward "Odo" Lozier, 75, of Mansfield, died Wednesday, February 17, 2010 after a lengthy and courageous battle with esophageal and stomach cancer. Ralph was born February 13, 1935 in Perrysville, the son of the late Doyle W. and Dorothy Faye Smith Lozier Herman. He graduated from Perrysville High School in 1953 and attended Wooster Business School. He had short periods of employment with the Mansfield Sanitary Pottery, brass department in Perrysville and the Tappan Company, Mansfield. He resided in the Mansfield area since 1958. Ralph served with the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War era and retired as a Chief Master Sergeant NCOIC, Personnel and Senior Enlisted Advisor with the U.S. Air Force and the Ohio Air National Guard 179th Airlift Wing. He was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church and later, the Grace Episcopal Church, both of Mansfield. He was also a member of the Sampson AFB Veteran's Association, Air Force Sergeants Association, and the American Legion Post 16. He was the founder and editor of the "Shadow Flight" newsletter for over 400 military members and retirees of the 179th Airlift Wing.
He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Patricia A. Jeffries Schulties Lozier; stepsons, Brian Bonnie and Barry Schulties and their families; one sister, Roberta J. Donahue of Kentucky; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family would like to thank the Ohio Cancer Specialists, Doctor Das, and all the nurses for the outstanding care given during Ralph's illness. They enabled him to live a good quality life. Thanks also to Hospice of North Central Ohio for their further in-home care.
At Ralph's request, cremation will take place followed by a private burial service to be held at a later date at Grace Episcopal Columbarium, Mansfield, Ohio. Memorial contributions may be made to the Grace Episcopal Church Living Memorial Fund, Mansfield, Ohio. Wappner Funeral Directors is privileged to serve the family of Ralph Lozier.
