Raymond Karl Mayer, 63, of Mansfield, died Sunday, January 8, 2006 at home. Born July 18, 1942 in Washington D.C., he was the son of the late John and Dora Mayer. He was employed at the Ontario General Motors Plant until his disability retirement in 2002. Mr. Mayer was a member of the Amvets Post 31 in Ontario. In the past, he enjoyed helping others with their car repairs or plumbing problems. He enjoyed making people laugh and had a collection of comical hats to wear, even poking fun at himself, too. He appreciated the help he received from Pastor Jim Leudeman of the Vermillion Baptist Church and attended services at the handicapped accessible Crossroads Community Church with his wife. Thanks go to Southern Care Hospice for their caring help and the many physicians caring for his needs also. He leaves this message to all his family and friends, to give of yourselves and help others in need and to please remember that, 'To live in the hearts of those you love, is not to die'.
He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Sharon Nelson Mayer; his children and step-children, Lori Medina, Amy Preston McFarland, Raelene Riggins, Becky Jay Brucker, Brian Mayer, and Chris Mayer; grandchildren and step-grandchildren, Craig Jannette Meenach, Ben Trumpower, John Riggins, Anissa Medina, Justin Brucker, Rachael Cowell, Brandon Grimm, Eric Medina, Nevaeh Grimm; great-grandson, Dekota Meenach; sister, Carolyn Mayer; and cousins.
At his request, no services will be held. Wappner Funeral Directors assisted the family with the cremation.
