

He was born March 13, 1923 in Cleveland, Ohio to Anthony Ottorino and Cecilia McCafferty Mion. As a young man he learned the concrete and terrazzo trade from his father, a master artisan who emigrated from the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region of Northern Italy. In 1947, after serving in the United States Navy, he settled his family in Mansfield. It was here that he applied the trade of his father and founded the Mansfield Flooring & Paving Company and its subsidiaries. He was an accomplished aviator, who in 1968 circumnavigated the world in a small twin-engine plane with another pilot. Among many activities throughout his lifetime, he was a member of the National Pilots Association, board member of the Ohio Contractor's Association, advisory board member of the Richland Trust Company, and an avid photographer.
He was preceded in death by his son Jonathan, grandson K. Marc Baker and his sisters Jean Young and Dolores Roi.
Surviving are two sons, a daughter and daughter-in-law, Raymond A. and Margaret L. Mion of Sunnyvale, California, Gary N. Mion of Mansfield, and Hollie J. Mion of Reynoldsburg, Ohio; two brothers, Leonard Mion of Mansfield and William Mion of Pleasant City, Ohio; two sisters, Rita Thayer of Granada Hills, California, and Placida Kokinda of Garretsville, Ohio; former wife, Darlene J. Mion of Mansfield; long-time companion, Esther Woerth of Mansfield; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Calling hours will be Thursday from 3-8 p.m. at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Road, Mansfield, Ohio where vigil prayer services will be held at 7:30 p.m. A funeral mass will be celebrated Friday, July 28, 2000 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Peter's Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mansfield Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Peter's Scholarship Fund, c/o St. Peter's Parish, 104 West First Street, Mansfield, Ohio 44902 or Visiting Nurses Association, P.O.
