
Rex Miller, 80, of Mansfield, Ohio died Monday morning, December 1, 2003 at Village Care Center in Galion, Ohio after a brief illness. Mr. Miller was born June 3, 1923 in Mansfield, Ohio living in the area all of his life. He retired from Russ Sprang Roofing having also been employed with the Charles Hoffman Company and McKinley Roofing. He attended the Ontario United Methodist Church and was a member of the American Legion Post #16, Shelby's VFW Post #291, the S.M.W.I.A. Local #33 Retiree's Club and the Kansas City Royal Baseball Boosters where he ushered for 18 years. He wintered in Haines City, Florida the past 18 years and enjoyed antique cars, especially his 1921 center door Model T. Rex made maple sugar in his own sugar camp. He was a veteran of WWII serving in Australia and the Philippines with the U.S. Army.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Betty Duffner Miller; two sons, James David and Randall Jon Miller, both of Mansfield; a granddaughter, Rachel Anne Miller; a brother and sister-in-law, Jack & Edna Miller of Mansfield; and three sisters and brothers-in-law, Gretchen Mary & Ed Albrecht and Joy Ann & Don Hunt, all of Mansfield and Sandra Jane & Tom Schaeffer of Perrysville. He was preceded in death by his parents, George H. & Geneva Shrader Miller; a son, Mark Miller; and three brothers, George C., Nelson and Shirley Miller.
Friends may call at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home conducted by Rev. James Winkler. Military services will follow in Mansfield Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to the Ontario United Methodist Church.
