
Richard Burns, 86, of Mansfield, died Thursday, October 5, 2007 at Good Shepherd Home in Ashland. Born June 16, 1921 in Mansfield, he was the son of Earl and Stella Bricker Burns. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII under Hap Arnold, who was his Commanding Officer, and was stationed in England alongside Jimmy Stewart. Mr. Burns retired from Gorman-Rupp. He attended Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. A good story teller and a really good guy, he loved golfing with his grandsons and spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Neva McPike Burns; one daughter and son-in-law, Diana and Mark Wilkinson of Mansfield; two sons and daughter-in-law, Gary Burns of Columbus, and Dennis and Ellen Burns of Englewood, Florida; four grandchildren, Marc Sarah Wilkinson of Cleveland, Matt Wilkinson of Mansfield, and Katie and Tara Burns, both of Englewood, Florida; brother and sister-in-law, Harlan and Casey Burns of Mansfield; sister, Geraldine Gurik of Mansfield; sister-in-law, Eileen Burns of Mansfield; and a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Earl Burns.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, October 7, 2007 at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors conducted by Dr. Pentti J. Maki. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer's Association or The Good Shepherd Home.
