
Richard A.'Luke' Riley, 71, of Ashland, died unexpectedly Sunday evening, October 30, 2005 at MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland of complications from an October 26th fall at home. He was surrounded by family at time of death. He was born December 10, 1933 in Dayton, Ohio, the son of Allen H. and Louise E. Lutz Riley. He was a graduate of Ashland High School and retired from Hydromatic Pump on April 1, 1997 after 36 years of service. He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving from 1954-1956. Mr. Riley was a fan of all types of auto racing for over 50 years, traveling near and far visiting dozens of tracks mostly with his wife Nancy at his side. He enjoyed dining out and watching his grandkids grow and mature. He was a very devoted husband, loving father, grandpa and friend.
Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Michael A. and Cindy Riley of Ashland; three grandchildren, Todd, Allison and Scott Riley; his mother, Louise E. Lutz Riley of Ashland; two brothers, John Riley of Ashland and Tom Riley of Westerville; several nieces and nephews; and special friends, Norma McVey and Lowell McClure, Jr.He was preceded in death by his father; and his wife of 44 years, Nancy Lee Taylor Riley in July 1999.
Following Richard's wishes, his body was cremated.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 8, 2005 at the Ashland Home of Wappner Funeral Directors with Rev. Jim Cox officiating. Inurnment will follow in Ashland Cemetery with the Ashland Veterans Honor Guard conducting full military services. Friends may call from 6-9 p.m. Monday, November 7, 2005 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of North Central Ohio or the Ashland County Cancer Association.
