
Richard Levon ''Dick'' Sherman, Jr., 69, of Uniontown, Ohio died Sunday afternoon, January 13, 2002 at Canton Mercy Medical. Mr. Sherman was born December 17, 1932 in Marion, Ohio living in the Mansfield area most of his life until moving to Uniontown one year ago. He retired from General Motors as a general foreman after 32 ½ years. He graduated from Ohio State University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree. Mr. Sherman was a life member and past commander of AmVets #26, a member Baggy Sacks #17, the Leiderkranz, Louisville Eagles #2374, Mogadore Moose Chapter #852, Venus Masonic Lodge, and Ontario VFW. He was a member of Fun Center Chordsman, Home Edition Barber Shop for 12 years, Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barber Shop Quartet Singing in America, and Ancient and Harmonious Society of Woodshedders. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force enlisting June 29, 1951, stationed in Alaska as a Cryptonalyst, and discharged May 3, 1955.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 22 ½ years, Millie Tharp Sherman; two sons and daughters-in-law, Noel & Lynn Sherman of Lexington and Doug & Teresa Sherman of Galion; two daughters and a son-in-law, Marty K. & Mike Stroup of Ontario and Dietra Sherman of Lexington; a stepson and daughter-in-law, Robert & Sandra Tharp of City of Green, Ohio; a stepdaughter, Sherry Tharp Cunningham of Akron, Ohio; 6 grandchildren; 7 step grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; 7 step great-grandchildren; a sister and brother-in-law, Shirley & Kenneth Ewers of Burbank, Illinois; a nephew, Jeff Sherman of Marion, Ohio; and a sister-in-law, Gloria Sherman of Marion. He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard Levon Sherman, Sr., February 2, 1978 and Eva Mary James Sherman, March 31, 2001; a brother, Robert Eugene Sherman, August 2, 1987; a sister, Naomi Kay Sherman, April 4, 1945; and stepdaughter, Patricia Chaney Best Schupback May, July 13, 1995.
Friends may call at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors Wednesday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. where a Baggy Sacks service will be held at 8:00 p.m. and Venus Masonic Lodge at 8:30 p.m. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2:30 p.m. at the funeral home conducted by Dr. Wray C. Smith and Rev. Kenneth Tharp. Military services will be held in Ontario Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Home Edition Barber Shop.
