Robert "Bob" W. Appel

Robert W. "Bob" Appel, 67, of Mansfield, Ohio, unexpectedly passed away early Friday morning, August 30, 2019. He was born on August 22, 1952 in Grafton, West Virginia to the late Harold August and Thelma Jean (Klingelhoffer) Appel.

Bob was an all around awesome person who had a big heart for people. He was selfless and would always put others above himself extending love, kindness and generosity. Bob loved his family more than anything and enjoyed every moment spent with them, especially family vacations with the kids as they grew up. He played guitar in a band for awhile. On April 28, 1979, Bob went on a blind date and it was there in that moment he had met his soulmate and forever love, Anna. Shortly after, they were engaged on May 13, 1979 and married September 1, 1979. Bob would dream big and had set a goal to buy a motor home after retirement to travel. Upon fulfilling that goal, he enjoyed traveling to many places with his wife, Anna. He graduated from Lucas High School in 1970. Bob was a U.S. Army veteran and served from 1972 - 1976. He worked for Sprint for 32 years and then MedCentral from 2005 to 2017 where he later retired from.

Bob is survived by his beloved wife, Anna (Lotterer) Appel; children, Jennifer (Billy) Saunders and Brian (Anne) Appel; grandchildren, William Saunders III, Emily Saunders, Caleb Appel and Hannah Appel; brother-in-law, John (Burletta) Lotterer; and nieces and nephews, Jeff, Holly, Heather, Tony and Lynn.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by sister, Barbara Ann Appel Blue and brothers, Richard Lee Appel and Kenneth Charles Appel.

The family will have a gathering of friends from 1:00-2:30 p.m. on Sunday, September 8, 2019 at Ridgeway Church of God, 1380 Park Avenue East. There will be a celebration of life service to follow at 2:30 p.m. officiated by his favorite son-in-law, Billy Saunders. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Ridgeway Church of God. The Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors is privileged to have served the family.
