

Robert A. 'Doc' Daugherty, 74, of Mansfield died Saturday November 13, 2004. He passed away surrounded by his Family at Winchester Terrace Nursing Home after a year long battle with cancer. He was born January 7, 1930 in Parkersburg, West Virginia to the late Robert Raymond and Irene Cantwell Daugherty and has lived in the area most of his life. 'Doc' was a member of two branches of the military, serving in the United States Navy from 1948 to 1951 and was drafted into the United States Army in 1951. He spent time stationed in Japan during the Korean Conflict. He began working at the Mansfield Tire & Rubber Company in 1947 and continued to work there until they closed in 1976. In 1978 'Doc' began working at the Mansfield News Journal in the circulation department where he remained until his retirement. After retiring he worked part time at CSI in Ashland. 'Doc' was a member of the American Legion McVey Post #16. On September 22, 1951, he was married to Shirley Ann Edwards, who survives. Probably his greatest joy was being 'Poppy' to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children, Donald & Pamela Daugherty Bell of Butler, 'Buster' Richard & Christine Boreman Daugherty of Mansfield, Tim & Carolyn Leedy Daugherty of Ashland and Michele Daugherty of Wooster. Ten grandchildren, Ame Dinger of Mansfield, Rachel Bell-Arnott and her husband Kevin of Columbus, Benny 'BJ', Dana both of Mansfield, Bradley of Cleveland, Brock, Michael & Matthew Daugherty all of Ashland and Kourtney and Brooke Boreman of Mansfield. Three great grandchildren, Madison Hrivnak, Gavin Dinger and Myles Arnott of Columbus. 'Doc' is also survived by two sisters, Mary Muntz and Naomi & Raymond Elmrick both of Medina and numerous nieces and nephews. A sister, Joann Young, preceded him in death.
Friends may call at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors one hour prior to the memorial service which will be held Wednesday November 17, 2004 at 6:00 P.M conducted by Rev. Robert Stanforth. Military honors will follow the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or Hospice of North Central Ohio.
