
Robert C. Goodwin, 51, of Mansfield, died unexpectedly from a tragic work related incident on Monday, March 14, 2011, in Hueytown, Alabama. Born February 11, 1960, in Mt. Holly, New Jersey, he was the son of Jack L. Goodwin, Jr. and Barbara Mull Goodwin. A veteran of the United States Army, he was employed as a truck driver for Valley Transportation and was previously self-employed in construction and floor tiling for 20 plus years in Florida where he lived most of his life. A great prankster, Robert loved his sweets and was known for stashing them for later. He enjoyed watching football and NASCAR racing with his favorite driver being Mark Martin. He enjoyed traveling, riding motorcycles, his dog Razor, spending time with his family, and teaching his children and grandchildren the facts of life but one of his greatest joys was spending time with his grandchildren who referred to him as Pop-Pop.
He is survived by his wife, Scarlett Goodwin; a son, Eric Michael Goodwin of Chulota, FL; his step children, Chad Allen Thompson of North Canton, OH, Desiree Y. Weber of Lexington, OH and Krystal S. Thompson of Marion, OH; his father, Jack L. Goodwin, Jr. of Lighthouse Point, FL; his mother, Barbara Mull Goodwin of Deltona, FL; his mother-in-law, Janet Cherrington Collins of Ontario, OH; three grandchildren, Dakota and Aaliyah Thompson and Jasmine Weber; three brothers, Jack Michelle Goodwin, III of Orlando, FL, Jeff Shelly Goodwin of Orange City, FL and Bill Cindy Goodwin of Deltona, FL; two brothers-in-law, Brent Julie Cherrington of Wyoming and Eric Angie Thompson of Marion, OH; two sisters-in-law, Joanna Vernon Jervis of Prestonburg, KY and Victoria Phil Smith of Mifflin, OH; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday, March 20, 2011, at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Road, Mansfield. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 21, 2011, at the funeral home conducted by Pastor Joe Stafford where full military services will be conducted by the Richland County Joint Veterans Burial Detail. Memorial contributions may be made to the Richland County Humane Society.
