
Robert James Hubler, 92, of Mansfield, passed away Sunday, January 31, 2010, at MedCentral Mansfield following a short illness. Born June 9, 1917, in Medina County near West Salem, he was the son of Thomas and Katherine Hoff Hubler. Robert was a 1935 graduate of Smithville High School and served in the United States Army during World War II, spending most of his time in the Aleutian Islands as part of the harbor defense at Dutch Harbor. He had worked as an accountant and in management for various places including Isaly's Dairy, Kroger's, T & A Grocery and Quality Farm and Fleet. In 1956 he started Bob's Sweet Shop in Killbuck. He then moved to Mansfield in 1962 and owned Bob's Drive In, retiring in 1984. He was a member of the American Legion Post 16, Amvets Post 26 and AARP 718. Robert was an avid gardener and was a member of the Men's Garden Club. He enjoyed photography, especially taking pictures of his many travels as his trips took him to 49 states.
Surviving are four nieces, Pauline Lowell Patton, Marilyn Joseph Halada, Kay Hubler Williams and Carole Hubler Bernard; three nephews, Clifford Corinne Hubler, William Janet Hubler and Thomas Hubler; and many other family members. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Evelyn Dilyard and Ruth Hubler; and four brothers, Paul, Ralph, Carl and Earl Hubler.
A celebration gathering in honor of Robert will be held from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, February 4, 2010, at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors. Memorial contributions may be made to the Richland County Red Cross.
