Robert Kinney

Robert J. Kinney, age 93, of 232 Walter Ave., died Saturday evening, April 1, 2000 at home following an extended illness. Mr. Kinney was born June 12, 1906 in Lancaster, OH, living in the Mansfield area for the past 57 years. His early working career began at age 16 as a shoemaker in Lancaster, OH. He joined the US Army Quartermaster Corps serving 2 years, graduating from Cook and Bakers School at Fort Benjamin Harrison, IN in January, 1929. Following his army service, he again took up his shoemaking career in Columbus, OH. While working there, he met his life partner. Edith, whom he married in January 1930. He began working at The Ohio Brass Co. in 1951 and retired in 1974. He was the oldest member of the Mansfield Seventh-day Adventist Church, where he served as an Elder and Sabbath School Teacher for many years. He will be greatly missed by many of his friends and loving family. We look forward to a reuniting when Jesus returns, and a new earth where suffering and sorrow will be no more. Surviving are three grandchildren; Jane Durken, Karen Shockey and Jim Kinney; twin great grandsons; Brian and Jason Shockey, and grandsons-in-law, nieces and nephews, and many dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Harry and Minnie Sullivan Kinney, his older half-brother Harry P. Lindsay, and his younger sister Lucille O. Leach. His loving wife of 54 years, Edith Belle Davis-Kinney who passed to her rest in 1984. This union was blessed with two sons and a daughter-in-law, Robert Jr. and Marguerite of Hagerstown, MD, David of Mansfield, with whom he made his home. Friends may call Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, Tuesday April 4, 2000, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.  Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday April 5, at 2 p.m. at the Mansfield Seventh-day Adventist Church, 1040 W. Cook Rd. with his Pastor Rick Szilagyi and former Pastor Elder Larry Grahn officiating. Burial will be held at Mansfield Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Seventh-day Adventist Church.
